What is a compilation report?
A compilation report, also known as a compilation statement, is a report accompanying financial information that has been compiled by a professional, such as the financial statements, interim figures, a statement of insured value, or a grant settlement. We process your administrative data into clear reports in accordance with the applicable reporting standards. The report makes clear that we compiled the figures based on information you provided. No assurance is provided on the fair presentation of the figures — unlike a review report or an audit opinion. For accountants, the NBA standard NV COS 4410 applies; administrative firms or bookkeepers affiliated with, for example, NOAB use their own compilation report. The report states, among other things, that management is responsible for the figures, which accounting policies were used, and the scope and limitations of our work. Disclosure of the report takes place only with the issuer’s consent. Want to know how we move from bookkeeping to reports?
When do you need a compilation report?
A compilation report is often requested when you apply for bank financing or a credit limit, during investor due diligence, or when a grant provider, insurer, or other third party asks for substantiated figures. For small BVs, a compilation report is generally not legally required, but it may be practical or even contractually required. For foundations and associations, similar considerations apply regarding stakeholder demands and the desired level of assurance. Are you a local BV or VOF and want your year-end work and reporting tightly arranged? See our support for local entrepreneurs. If you choose our service, you will receive a complete annual report with a compilation report as a solid basis for discussions with external parties.
Difference from review report and audit opinion
The three reports mainly differ in the level of assurance and the depth of the work performed:
– Compilation report: no assurance. We help present your figures neatly and in line with reporting standards and flag inconsistencies, but we do not actively verify correctness. Suitable when usable reporting is needed without an audit requirement.
– Review report: limited assurance. The accountant performs plausibility tests, such as analytical procedures and targeted inquiries. Often appropriate for financing applications where more comfort is required, but no full audit.
– Audit opinion: reasonable assurance. The accountant intensively tests processes, internal control, and transactions and issues an opinion on the fair presentation of the financial statements. Legally required for medium-sized and large legal entities that exceed thresholds.
Not sure which report fits? Align the choice with your bank’s or other stakeholder’s requirements, the size and complexity of your organization, and the desired level of assurance. Schedule an advisory session on compilation reports and financing requirements to assess your situation.
Costs of a compilation report
The cost of a compilation report differs per company. There is no fixed fee, because factors such as the size of your BV or holding company, the number of transactions, the quality and completeness of your administration, consolidation needs, industry complexity, and desired turnaround time all play a role. The type of engagement provider also matters: a compilation report by an accountant (RA or AA, under NV COS 4410) generally carries a different fee than a compilation report via an administrative office or bookkeeper that uses a NOAB report. Within our all-in accounting packages, we offer the compilation report as a flexible option. We make clear arrangements in advance about scope and planning, so you know exactly what to expect. Frequently asked questions
These frequently asked questions provide clarity about what we arrange, how we work, and what you can expect when collaborating with us for your business administration.
